A line from the Legally Blonde movie keeps running through my head. “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands, they just don’t.” or more accurately the part about endorphins making you happy. I wonder if that statement was scientifically based or simply the imagination of the writers. After 2 weeks of dragging myself out of bed before 6am, driving to the gym and telling myself that it will get better, it is kinda sorta getting better.
What really keeps me going isn’t endorphins (although they may help aid in the feeling of happiness) , it isn’t the improved sleeping patterns nor even the desire to sit “comfortably” on the plane as I fly to the cruise next year. What keeps me going is that I want to live the life God has for me to live. To serve Him with my time, talent, energy and ultimately whole life. To live a life in obedience to the Lord.
“What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams. 1Samuel 15:22 (NLT)
Ultimately this is a journey of obedience to the Lord.
- to exercise regularly
- to eat healthy and to not over eat
- to worship the Lord DAILY and
- to live Fully for the Lord
Today is only one day. Tomorrow holds something new.
“Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes. Matt. 6:34 (The Message)
